Desalting crude oil is the first step in refining process and essential for problem free plant operation. crude oil always contains water, salts and other components. if these salts and heavy metals are not removed, the may form acids when the are heated, and it causes plugging of heat exchangers or clogging trays in the process tower. so we must provide solutions for desalting process. desalting is done in one or two stages. Desalting process consists of mixing heated crude oil with wash water using hardware devices not chemicals. proper mixing is very importente for the salt removing and is done y using mixing valves an statin mixers.Emulsion is broken by a high voltage electrostatic field in a gravity settler tank. Brin water phase containing extracted salts and other impurities is removed from the bottom for treatment. Then the desalted oil is transferred to the atmospheric destillation column.
